Fax machine anthem

Andrew Rosindell, Tory MP for Romford, has tabled a whole bunch of questions to a whole bunch of Government departments, including asking a series of Qs along the lines of “to ask the Sec of State how much his/ her Department has spent on maintaining its Twitter feed/ Youtub channel/ Flickr channel in the past 12 months”. I suspect he is against such new-fangled ways of communicating with the Great British Public.

Meanwhile Tom Watson has moved on from asking about mobile phones and has been looking into the question of ministerial cars. Judging from the packed forecourt outside the Commons at the votes this afternoon, most of the new Ministers have taken full advantage of the perks of office and their car of choice is nine times out of ten a Prius. Eric Pickles however, I am reliably informed, prefers a Jag.

I am staggered by the hypocrisy that you demonstrate. I never onece heard comment from you relating to the use of ministerial cars while Labour was in office. Why the criticism now?

Because Cameron said they weren’t going to use them. And then we had the ridiculous scenario of Ministers not being allowed to travel on public transport with their red boxes, and the boxes having to be sent by car while the Ministers got the bus.
