Was just browsing the FCO website, looking for inspiration for an FCO oral question, which has to be tabled by 12.30pm tomorrow, and came across this blog from an FCO staffer, working as a Climate Change Officer in Santiago.
The Government (Labour, confirmed by the Coalition when a charitable donor stepped in) has created the world’s largest Marine Protected Area, twice the size of Britain, where no commercial fishing is allowed.
The downside is the news (see his blog) that the commitment to protect 10% of the world’s oceans by 2012 has been pushed back to 2020. And marine experts say we actually need to protect 30% of the oceans…
