Idiot wind

Someone I met at Airbus earlier  today has emailed me with a link to this (official) bootleg version of Idiot Wind. Given how much I love the Blood on the Tracks version, and given Dylan’s somewhat dodgy reputation for sometimes murdering his classic tracks when he performs live, or at least disfiguring them beyond all recognition, I was sceptical at first…

But it’s actually fascinating, especially hearing the different lyrics in some verses; it was obviously a work in progress at this stage. Here it is – I can’t seem to insert it as a video but you can cut and paste the link – and belated happy 70th birthday Bob!

That was me, then! Great to meet you at Airbus last Thursday and glad you like the track. It’s the finest song from Dylan’s finest album. Is there anyone other than Dylan who can go from such tenderness to vitriol in just a few lines?

Incidentally, next time you’re in Bristol (and it’s the first Monday of the Month) why not come along to one of the meetings of the Bristol Secular Society? Link here:

It would be great to see you there (or any other local MP for that matter)…if not, a plug on your blog would be much appreciated…
