Chope attack: the sequel

Here’s a neat summary of Chope’s second Bill of today.

The Tribunals (Maximum Compensation Awards) Bill 2010-11 would enable a maximum limit of £50,000 to be established for compensation in Employment Tribunal awards for cases involving unfair or wrongful dismissal or unlawful discrimination arising out of employment. Currently unfair dismissals are subject to a cap of £68,400. Awards in discrimination cases are uncapped and it is for the Tribunal to decide what the damage/hurt to the individual has been.

It will be talked out, in about eight minutes time. In Chope’s opening remarks he made clear his contempt for the whole concept of discrimination cases being given special treatment.
