On March 31st I’ll be supporting WWF’s Earth Hour. Usually it’s about urging people all across the world to switch off their lights for an hour at the same time, but this year there’s a food focus too, and they’re asking to have a sustainable meal by candlelight.
They have a number of menus from celebrity chefs on their website; I was asked to choose one, and obviously went for the vegan option. It’s a little disappointing that not many of the suggested menus are vegetarian or vegan, but they have put eating less meat as one of the five simple rules for a sustainable diet. The others are: waste less food; eat less processed food; eat more plants; and buy food that meets a credible certified standard. They say that up to 30% of food that is brought home is wasted.
And by the way, I mentioned Shane, the chef at Arc cafe, on here a couple of weeks ago – here’s another plug for him and his banana skin curry. We should perhaps see if Arc want to do an Earth Hour special?
